Comeback Medvedev Wins Maiden Trophy in 882 Days

Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev won his first championship for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-term trainer Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden title since the Italian tournament and first on a hard court after that period of that year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters together, so to secure a championship is really nice," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.

The player's counter-punching approach and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had caused observers to wonder if his skill to perform at the highest level was over.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and play aggressively, supported by an enhanced serve.

The champion fought back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden professional title, took control to force a third set.

The opponent saved four initial chances in a tight final set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, he earned the win with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
